About

Claudia Stone Art Group was founded in 2011 in New York City by Claudia Stone—art dealer and advisor of Post-War and Contemporary American Art. Stone has over twenty-five years experience in acquisitions, collection management and curation with a specialty in the New York School of Abstract Expressionism. She is the protégé of her late father, Allan Stone—the foremost voice on the New York School of Abstract Expressionism and maverick art dealer and collector, who gained renown for his keen and intuitive eye—a talent passed on to Claudia Stone. Prior to creating Claudia Stone Art Group, she directed Allan Stone Gallery for more than two decades.

Claudia Stone Art Group maintains longstanding relationships with the most influential auction houses in New York and abroad—Christie’s and Sotheby’s among them. At Christie’s New York, Stone co-curated, organized and negotiated terms for the first, highly successful Allan Stone auction estate sale: “Selections From The Allan Stone Collection” (2007).

In addition, Claudia Stone Art Group works with museum curators by sourcing significant pieces for important exhibitions, some of which include: John Graham: Maverick Modernist, Parrish Art Museum, Watermill, NY (2017), Richard Estes: Painting New York City, Museum of Arts and Design, New York (2015), John ChamberlainChoices: A Retrospective, Guggenheim Museum, New York (2012), American Vanguards: Graham, Davis, de Kooning, and Their Circle, Addison Gallery of American Art, MA (2012), Willem de Kooning: A Retrospective, MoMA, NY (2012); and while with the Allan Stone Gallery: Franz Kline: 1910 – 1962, Castello di Rivoli, Turin, Italy (2005) and Wayne Thiebaud: A Retrospective, Whitney Museum of American Art, New York (2001).

The Group also has a history of curating and marketing important exhibitions such as Wayne Thiebaud at Allan Stone: 33 years (1994); Willem de Kooning: Liquefying Cubism (1995); Franz Kline: Architecture & Atmosphere (1998); John Chamberlain: Early Works (2003); Alfred Leslie: Expressing the Zeitgeist (2004); John Graham: Sum qui Sum (2005); Wayne Thiebaud: Figures (2008); Willem de Kooning: Drawings (2008), then for the Allan Stone Gallery.

In addition to private clients, Claudia Stone Art Group continues Claudia Stone’s work curating significant collections for corporate clients. Among them are: Morgan Stanley (New York corporate headquarters), Montgomery Securities (San Francisco corporate headquarters, Boston and New York offices), and Capital Cities/ABC Inc. (New York corporate headquarters).

Claudia Stone Art Group is affiliated with: ArtTable, the leadership organization for professional women in the visual arts and the Foundation for Contemporary Arts.
